Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the ocean data come from?

Sea surface temperature, chlorophyll, currents, and bathymetry come from NOAA satellite and model data (ERDDAP, CO-OPS). Wind data comes from the NCEP GFS model. Wave data comes from MFWAM (Météo-France). Inlet depth soundings come from USACE eHydro surveys. We display the data as-is — Pelagic Insight is not a substitute for official marine charts or navigation tools.

How do I subscribe?

On the mobile app, tap "Subscribe" on the map screen or go to Settings → Subscription. On the web, visit pelagicinsight.com/app and follow the subscribe prompt. Subscriptions are $4.99/month and auto-renew until cancelled.

How do I cancel my subscription?

If you subscribed on the mobile app (Apple): Go to your iPhone Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Pelagic Insight → Cancel. If you subscribed on the web (Stripe): Go to Settings → Manage Subscription in the app, or visit pelagicinsight.com and use the Manage Subscription button.

I subscribed on the website. Will the mobile app recognize it?

Yes — as long as you sign in with the same account (Google or email) on both the website and the mobile app, your subscription will be detected automatically.

How do I export my fishing data?

Go to Settings → Export My Data. This downloads all your fishing logs, conditions, waypoints, and more as a PDF you can save or share.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Delete Account at the bottom of the page. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data including fishing logs, preferences, and subscription records. This action cannot be undone.

How often is the data updated?

SST and chlorophyll are updated daily from satellite passes. Wind and wave forecasts update every 3 hours from model data (GFS and MFWAM). Inlet depth soundings are updated when USACE publishes new surveys (typically quarterly).

Is this app suitable for navigation?

No. Pelagic Insight is a fishing intelligence tool, not a navigation system. Depth soundings and ocean data are provided for informational purposes only. Always use proper marine charts and navigation equipment when on the water.

What areas are covered?

The US East Coast and Gulf of America, roughly from Texas to Maine (24°N–45°N, 98°W–65°W). Coverage includes 130 inlets from Brownsville, TX to Eastport, ME.
